About - Catherine O'Donnell Photography

"Photography is about capturing souls, not smiles." Dragan Tapshanov

Catherine O'Donnell is a photographer specialising in portraiture with an effortless, lifestyle feel. After studying a Fine Art & Media degree she spent over a decade working in the media and creative world, as well as teaching.

Forever mesmerised by art, Catherine has been drawing and painting since she was a toddler, and found herself behind the lens of a camera from a very young age, however it has only been in recent years that her love of photography has led her to embark on it as a professional pursuit.

With a passion for portraiture and capturing a sense of authenticity and emotion, Catherine's work combines an originality and sensitivity with a sense of fun and story-telling.

Always striving to capture and create beautiful images, Catherine loves to shoot in natural light whenever possible. Her relaxed, intuitive style, and professional approach ensures clients and subjects are happy in front of the camera.

Inspired by everything from impressionist paintings, to films, life, people watching and the ocean, Catherine creates inspiring portraiture with a story-telling, effortless feel for a range of clients; from lifestyle shoots for families and children - through to beautiful shoots of women, fashion, editorial and commercial work.

Catherine lives in Bedfordshire with her two sons, husband & dog, and rarely features in any family photographs.

"I've always been fascinated by people and have been sketching, painting and taking pictures my whole life, I think I first picked up a camera when I was about five or six and I haven't stopped, although it's funny I used to take pictures thinking; that would make a good painting and then photography kind of took over.

"I guess I'm always looking, and people watching, I'm genuinely fascinated by people and story-telling. I love photographing portraits, exploring relationships and emotions and trying to catch a glimpse of who someone really is behind the mask we so often wear even if it's just for a moment - that inner sparkle and connection.

"I think everyone has a story, and its unique, and that's the beauty of photographing people, everyone's story is different but we can all connect and relate.

"I also love shooting editorial, commercial and fashion work with an effortless story-telling/ lifestyle feel. And I try to keep myself inspired with personal projects too - like my current Oh Mama! series which is very close to my heart.

"I'm a mum of two very lively little boys, and work around my children who keep me on my toes and make me laugh on a daily basis.  I hope I can inspire them to follow their passions.

I'm really excited to be able to share my passion, and strive to create beautiful images that people fall in love with."

When Catherine's not taking photos, or busy editing, she can often be found hanging out in her local park with her two boys and her dog, or hanging upside down in a yoga pose.

Catherine also offers private tutorials and small beginners workshops.
